Aston Villa loan star pulls out of international youth squad through injury

It has been reported by the Birmingham Mail that Aston Villa loan star Tammy Abraham has been forced to pull out of the England Under-21s squad through injury.

Aston Villa loanee Tammy Abraham has pulled out of the England Under-21s squad through injury, the Birmingham Mail has said.

The striker had to be substituted with 73 minutes gone during Villa’s 3-0 victory over fellow Championship play-off hopefuls Middlesbrough. He limped off with a calf injury and after failing to recover in time to represent the Young Lions, Abraham had to pull out of the squad ahead of their clash with Poland.

The Chelsea youngster will now miss their game against Germany’s Under-21s, but the full extent of the injury remains unknown.

Abraham has been a key player for Aston Villa so far this season and is the top scorer for his loan side. He sits in joint third in the Championship goalscoring standings, boasting a record of 131 minutes per goal. He has netted an impressive 21 goals in 31 games since joining during the summer transfer window.

Villa fans, Abraham and manager Dean Smith will be hoping that the injury does not keep him out of the run into the end of the season. Villa have launched themselves back into the play-off fight after winning their last four games – all coming against top-half sides.

The club returns to action in one week, as they look to carry their strong form into the closing stages of the season. Villa face Blackburn next Saturday and they will be hoping that top scorer Abraham is available.
