Brentford striker poised to return to training despite ongoing transfer speculation

Brentford striker Neal Maupay is poised to make an imminent return to training despite transfer speculation according to The Standard.

He was due to return back for pre-season training today after ongoing transfer rumblings forced Brentford to send him home from the club’s pre-season tour last weekend.

Maupay is attracting interest from Premier League sides Aston Villa and Sheffield United as well as Championship side West Bromwich Albion after an impressive season with the Bees.

Aston Villa in particular are by no means shy of spending on a relatively unproven attacking talent at the highest level having already broken their transfer record to bring in Brazilian forward Wesley from Club Brugge.

Maupay hit 25 goals last season as he proved himself as one of the most lethal finishers in the second tier of English football.

There is believed to have not yet been a formal bid made by any club but there has been mounting interest and he was sent home from their game against Dynamo Kiev in Austria due to the transfer talk surrounding him.

The Frenchman is believed to be open to a move away should the interest become more concrete as he looks to test himself either in the top flight or at a club fighting for promotion in the Championship.

Brentford are believed to be demanding a fee of around £20million for Maupay and are in no desperate need to sell their prized asset and indeed one of their best players.

Maupay has scored 37 goals in 85 appearances for the Bees and is one of the most wanted strikers for a whole host of clubs in this summer’s transfer window.
