Blackburn Rovers set to turn down former Liverpool and Stoke City midfielder – Blackpool linked with swoop

According to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, Blackburn Rovers will not be offering a contract to former Liverpool and Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam, who has been training with the club recently.

As covered here on The72, Blackburn Rovers had brought in free agent midfielder Charlie Adam in to train with the club ahead of the start of the new season. Adam featured in a pre-season friendly against non-league side Barrow, impressing manager Tony Mowbray.

However, it has now been claimed by journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter (see below) that Rovers look set to pass up on the chance to bring Adam in on a free transfer this summer, hinting that Adam’s former club Blackpool could look to swoop after the latest development.

Adam is available on a free transfer after he left Championship side Stoke City at the end of the season upon the expiry of his contract. The 33-year-old’s departure from Stoke City brought an end to a seven-year stint with the club, in which he played 179 times for the Potters, scoring 22 goals and providing 17 assists along the way.

He started out his career with Dundee, coming through the youth academy with the club before moving on to Rangers, where he remained for five years, spending time on loan at Ross County, St Mirren and Blackpool.

Adam enjoyed a thoroughly successful time with Blackpool, scoring 35 goals and laying on 22 assists in 98 games as the Tangerines won promotion to the Premier League. Upon the club’s relegation to the Championship, the Scottish midfielder moved to Liverpool, spending two seasons at Anfield before leaving for Stoke.

Now, it awaits to be see where Adam is playing his football next season.
