Manchester United next manager odds: Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate lead the betting

Manchester United are in trouble in eighth position which has put Erik ten Hag's job in jeopardy with the 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace not helping matters.

talkSPORT BET have Thomas Tuchel as the favourite to replace him should he be sacked, with England manager Gareth Southgate close in behind with his imminent departure from international football.

With Manchester United down in eighth it could be their worst ever finish in the Premier League.

However, the team has not been helped by a mass injury list, especially to their defenders including this list of players who are currently injured going into the final two games: Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Willy Kambwala, Tyrell Malacia and Jonny Evans.

But they've still not been the same team they once were, even with a near fully fit squad.

Ten Hag has been with United since 2022 and even managed a third place finish last season but has been faced with numerous difficulties this year including a tough transfer window, where it may not change once more with a switch of managers but a full reshuffle of the squad needed.

Tuchel has managed some big clubs in his time and in various leagues so he is an obvious candidate.

Formerly with Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and currently with Bayern Munich he would bring a new dynamic with a wealth of key experience.

Southgate is close up in the odds due to the England manager set to leave his position after the EURO 2024 tournament.

But the 53-year-old has only ever managed Middlesbrough at club level and could be a bit of a gamble, despite his successes and top player management with some of England's best talent.

Not winning the EURO's would put the pressure on if he were to be hired but it could also spur a huge surge of interest and backing in the manager that has got England to the finals of the 2020 EURO's and quarters of the World Cup against the eventual finalists.

At 5/2 Southgate does represent a fairly strong price for what could be a logical move in his managerial career for both parties.
